5 Powerful Prayers For A Sick Friend

5 Powerful Prayers For A Sick Friend

Prayer For A Sick Friend

O God I have a dear friend who is very ill and I feel so helpless. Father – we are fearfully and wonderfully made, for You formed each of us in our mother’s womb and fashioned each of our bodies and You know where this particular problem lies.

Father I know that there is nothing in my friend’s body that You do not know about and nothing that is beyond Your ability to heal – and so I lift up this dear one to You – for You know the source of the pain and Your healing touch still has its ancient power. I pray that You will heal this child of Yours and raise them back to full health and strength – and we will give You all the praise and all the glory.

Please give me words of comfort and encouragement as I seek to advise them in difficult days that lie ahead. I also ask that You provide for all their needs, according to Your loving-kindness.

This I ask in Jesus name.
Amen

Prayer for the Sick

Those of your people who are sick, visiting them in mercies and compassions, heal them. Take from them and from us all sickness and all disease; the spirit of sicknesses drive away. Those who have lain long in diseases raise up and comfort; set free all those who are vexed with unclean spirits; those who are in prisons or mines or in exile or captivity or held in bitter bondage, O Lord, set them all free and have mercy on them.

For it is you who looses those who are bound and sets up those who are cast down—the hope of the hopeless, the help of the helpless, the comfort of the weak-hearted, the harbor of the tempest-tossed.

To every soul that is in affliction and that is oppressed give mercy, give rest, give refreshment, give help. And for us also, O Lord, heal the sicknesses of our souls, cure those of our bodies, O physician of our souls and our bodies. Overseer of all flesh, visit us with your salvation.

Give us Hope of Recovery

Most merciful Father, though our sin finds us out, and we are justly afflicted for our transgressions, yet we are not consumed in your wrath; but you punish us less than our iniquities deserve. Though you cause grief, yet you will have compassion according to the multitude of your mercies, for you do not willingly afflict and grieve the children of men. Look down in tender mercy on the affliction of this your servant; O Lord, do not rebuke him in your wrath; neither chasten him in your hot displeasure. All his desire is before you, and his groaning is not hid from you; have mercy upon him, O Lord, for he is weak.

O Lord heal him, whose bones and soul are vexed. Do not remember the iniquities of his youth, or his transgressions: look upon his affliction, and his pain, and forgive all his sins. Though the sorrows of death do surround him, yet if it be for your glory and his good, recover him, and let him live and praise your name. In the time of his trouble we call upon you; deliver him, and let him glorify you; however show him the sin that offends you, let him search and try his ways, and confess and turn from his iniquity, and let it be good for him that he was afflicted. Let this be the fruit of it, to purge and take away his sin, that being chastened of the Lord, he may not be condemned with the world.

In the meantime, O Lord, be his portion, who are good to the soul that seeks you, and waits for you. Let him patiently and silently bear your yoke, let him hope and quietly wait for your salvation: considering that you will not cast off forever: that your anger is but for a moment, but in your favour is life. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning: and that whom you love, you chasten, and scourge every son whom you receive; and that if he endure chastening, you deal with him as a son.

If he recovers, let him devote himself entirely to your glory: that when you have put off his sackcloth and mourning, and girded him with gladness, he may speak your praise, and give you thanks. If he receives the sentence of death in himself, let it cause him to trust in you who raises the dead, knowing that as you raised up the Lord Jesus, you will raise him up also by Jesus. Let him be found in Christ, not having his own righteousness, but that which is of God by faith. Restrain the tempter, and deliver your servant from the sinful fears of death, by Christ, who, through death, destroyed the devil that had the power of death; that he may find that death has lost his sting, and triumph over it by faith in him, through whom we are made more than conquerors. That, by faith and love, his soul may now ascend with Christ, that ascended unto his Father and our Father, and to his God and our God, and is gone to prepare a place for us, and has promised, that where he is, there his servants shall be also: that they may behold the glory which you have given him. Magnify yourself in his body, whether by life or death, and safely bring him into your glorious presence, where is fullness of joy, and everlasting pleasures, through Jesus Christ our Life and Righteousness.

Amen.

Intercession for a Sick Person

O blessed Lord, the Father of mercies and God of all consolation, we ask you to look down with infinite pity and compassion upon this your sick servant. Remember the sharpness and weariness of his pains. Break not the bruised reed nor quench the smoking flax, but make him to hear joy and gladness, that the bones which you have broken may rejoice.

Deliver him from the snares and temptation of Satan; from all impatience and repining at your chastisement; from all unbelief and distrust in your mercies; from improper fears of death and immoderate desires for life.

Grant unto him sincere repentance for his sins, and perfect assurance that they have been forgiven and his complete salvation secured through the atoning sacrifice and effectual mediation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sanctify to him all his afflictions, and, though very grievous to the flesh, may they begin, even now, to work out for him a far more exceeding and an eternal weight of glory. Prepare him for all that you have prepared for him. Give him to see the desire of his heart in the well-being and the well-doing of all bound to him by the ties of natural affection. And at last give to him an abundant entrance into your heavenly home.

O blessed Jesus, we cast ourselves upon your mercy: by your cross and passion, by your precious death and burial, by your glorious resurrection and ascension, and by the coming of the Holy Ghost, deliver us, O Lord, and hear our prayer. Amen.

For God’s Healing Touch On Our Lives

Bless the Lord oh my soul and may I never forget Your gracious benefits for You are the divine physician and are able to touch every part of our lives with Your redeeming love. Lord, we live in a fallen world and each one of us needs Your healing touch in so many ways on our lives – for none of us are exempt from the ravages of sin and none of us are immune from sickness and suffering, and so we come to You today to ask for Your healing touch in every area of our lives.

Lord we know that sickness and suffering.. pain and death is a reality in life, for in this world we will have tribulation, and yet we know that a life that is surrendered by You is one that is able to give thanks to You in everything – knowing that You are able and willing to be with us and uphold us in every area of life – for Your grace is sufficient in all and every situation.

Lord I believe this to be true, for Your word is faithful and true and I also believe that You are able to heal every manner of disease and sickness and so I pray for Your healing touch in every area of my life, and in the lives of all whom I love – body and soul.. as well as spirit. But Lord, I also know that You often permit sickness and suffering in an amazing way - to draw us ever closer to Yourself.

Lord I give You my life and surrender all to You, for I desire the full and total healing.. the sort of healing that brings glory to You. Thank You that I am Your child and You are the great and mighty physician - Bless the LORD, O my soul, and may I never forget Your gracious benefits; for You pardon all my iniquities; heal all my diseases; have redeemed my life from the pit; and has crowned me with loving-kindness and tenderness - thank You Father in Jesus name,

Amen

For The Joy Of The Lord During Sickness

Precious Lord Jesus, I thank You that You are my Saviour and that You have redeemed me from the kingdom of darkness into the glorious kingdom of Your dear Son – my Saviour Jesus Christ. Lord I know that Your word tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength and that a joyful heart is a good and healing medicine. Lord I pray that in Your strength I may maintain a heart that is brimming with Your joy and one that rejoices in the God of my Salvation day by day – knowing that a broken spirit ‘dries up the bones’.

Lord I know that You are a miracle working God, and that the greatest miracle of all that You have wrought in me, is my great salvation in Jesus Christ, Who died for me so that I might be forgiven of my sins and have everlasting life, but I also ask that You send Your mighty healing power into my body, during the time of illness that I am currently going through.

Father I pray that You would touch every organ and ligament of my body – every joint and cell and restore me to full health and strength, but I also pray that during my sickness You would touch my heart and fill it with Your love, Your grace and Your joy – for in You is the fullness of joy. Lord You alone can flood a sick body with healing and You alone can overflow a heart with joy and peace - and so I rest my soul in You – and thank You for all the healing of body and soul that I know You are working within me, in Jesus name I pray,

Amen

Prayer To Be Set Free From Sickness

Dear heavenly Father, I praise and thank You for Your never-failing love towards me – even when I was lost in sin and without hope in the world You looked down and gently called me to be Your child – even though I was rebellious and restless.

Lord You know that partly due to not caring for myself and partly for no other reason that we live in a fallen world I am suffering a debilitating sickness and ask that You would graciously look down on me and pick me up again and heal me in body as well as in spirit, as You did once before.

Thank You for dying for me to pay the price for my sin and thank You that You were wounded for my transgression and bruised for my iniquity – and that by Your stripes I am healed. Lord, I know that this body of mine is only going to deteriorate more and more as I get older, but I do pray that in Your grace and mercy You would set me free from the unpleasant sickness and pain that I am going through at the moment, and give me relief and healing.

Lord I do pray that You would set me free from this debilitating sickness that I am going through – nevertheless I also thank You that in all things Your grace is sufficient for You have proved this to be the case time and time again in the past. Thank You that You are a faithful God in all things and I ask that my life, in sickness and in health - be a life that glorifies You.

Keep me I pray from grumbling, when I have received such an overabundance of Your mercies, which are new every morning - knowing that our life here is but for a fleeting moment, in the economy of eternity… knowing that You have given me eternal life, for which I praise and thank You in Jesus name,

Amen

Prayer for Those that are Bedridden

Lord we ask Your grace and mercy on those that find themselves in a situation where they are unable to get out of bed and function normally due to whatever reason. Father we pray You would be very gracious to them in their sickness and ask that they may come to know You in a real sense – that they would know Your presence with them, to uphold and sustain .

Give those that care for them the grace and patience to cope with whatever situation they meet without resentment or a careless attitude, but give all those that care for the sick and elderly a love for those that care for that comes only from You.

Sustain each one we pray on their sickbeds and if it is Your purpose for their lives we pray that they may be raised again into restored health and strength and should they find themselves in a situation where their illness is prolonged or even terminal, we pray that You would heal their inner soil and bind up any brokenness in their hearts.

Lord we know that in You we have life and life more abundantly and so we ask that if there are any for whom we are praying that have not accepted the Lord Jesus as their Saviour – that You would send a special someone to tell them the truth – that Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for their sins.. so that all who believe on His name might not perish but have everlasting live - and that He rose again the third day, conquering death and hell for ever so that we may live with Him eternally in bodies that are glorified and like unto His glorious body. Father look down we pray in grace and mercy on ALL who are permanently bedridden and draw each one into the loving arms of the Lord Jesus, in Whose name we pray,

Amen

Unexpected Sickness Of A Neglectful Believer

Dear Lord, it is to You that I always come when things are difficult of when unexpected sickness strikes. Forgive me for the many times when I have ignored You or tried to do things in my own strength – I know that my strength and help comes from the Lord alone and I ask Your forgiveness for my careless attitude towards You in the past.

Thank You that You are always faithful, even when I prove unfaithful to You - and so I come to You with this unexpected sickness and ask Lord that You would touch me and make me whole again. Restore my health to me I pray and take away this unexpected illness. Lord I do not feel well and I really don’t know what to do and so I am looking to You for help and strength - and Lord I pray for a speedy recovery.

Restore my health I pray and may this realisation of my neglect be a catalyst to turn the eyes of my heart, the actions of my life and the motives of my mind back to Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith… May this unexpected sickness bring me back to the cross so that my fellowship with the Father may be properly restored. I have not loved You as i ought Lord, and have been living my life in rather a selfish way, but I pray that You would look graciously on me and use this as a reminder to keep my eyes firmly looking to Jesus, from this day forward and not to seek to live my life independently of You – I ask this in Jesus name

Amen-
